Dealer hid cocaine in his shorts

Exclusive

A man stashed his haul of drugs in a safe place when he heard a knock on the door of his Ashford home.

But when Jamie Murphy opened the door and saw police officers he immediately confessed: “I’ve got four grams of cocaine in my boxer shorts!”

Now Murphy, 25, of Holmwood Road, has escaped an immediate jail sentence after admitting intending to supply the Class A drugs and possessing cannabis.

Judge Adele Williams told him she was giving him a chance to put his life in order.

She added: “You face a very simple equation ... stay out of trouble, comply with the court order and you stay out of prison. Don’t comply with the order – prison. Remember it!”

Prosecutor Jim Harvey told Canterbury Crown Court how officers raided Murphy’s home in January this year and retrieved the cocaine from the underpants.

They then discovered a quantity of cannabis, scales, deal bags, several mobile phones and £160 in cash.

Murphy said the cocaine belonged to another person and he agreed to look after it in exchange for a reduction in his drugs debts.

Murphy was given a 16 months jail sentence suspended for two years and ordered to undergo six months of drugs rehabilitation.

He was also ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work for the community.

The judge said that the £160 which was seized by officers should go to pay part of the prosecution costs.
