Clooney lookalike has found his ‘wife’

Ashford’s very own George Clooney lookalike has found himself a wife – or at least a woman who resembles one.

Gary Tate, a cleaner from Sir Bernard Paget Avenue, Repton Park, has been impersonating the Hollywood star for 18 years, but since the celebrity married last year, there has been something missing from his act.

But now a woman with a striking resemblance to lawyer Amal Clooney – who George married last year – has tracked Gary down and the pair are planning to appear in public together soon.

The 57-year-old, who owns Gary’s Cleaning, said: “Gina Annabel is the first Amal lookalike I’ve seen. I’ve never worked with anyone else because, before Amal, George was single and wasn’t really seen with anyone.

“George is a good celebrity to look like because he’s an A-lister. I get a steady stream of jobs coming in, but hopefully I’ll get even more now I’ve got Gina.”

Gina works in a shop at a holiday park in Cornwall and registered as a Mrs Clooney lookalike after people commented on how much she looked like her.

She saw American Mr Clooney lookalike David Siegel on ITV’s Lorraine programme and contacted him before deciding she wanted a George who lived closer to home. Gina believes she is the only Amal Clooney lookalike working in this country.

She said: “After watching David Siegel, I got in touch with him as my family and friends said how much I look like her. I got signed up as her only lookalike and decided to go in search for an English Clooney lookalike and found Gary, who is well known for being offered more than £5,000 to sleep with a Clooney fan. The day after we released the photos of us together, emails were already flying in from agents.”

Gary went to John Lynch Photography in Kennington with his new companion to get shots taken in celebrity poses. He gets booked for magazine shoots, corporate events and even bit parts in films, most famously Crush, starring Andie MacDowell.

Two years ago we reported how the husband of a George Clooney fan offered Gary £5,500 to sleep with his wife for her 40th birthday, which he politely declined.

Gary, who is currently single, said that although he and Gina get on well, it will only be their looks mirroring George and Amal’s. He joked: “I’m not going to be marrying her.”
