Emma successful­ly lands double

Following her win in the mini whip competitio­n for juniors during Ashford Angling Society’s Open Day at Surrenden, Emma Austen completed the double by winning Saturday’s David Halls Memorial junior competitio­n fished on the match lake, writes Alan Yates. Her winning weight of 6lb 13oz included a 2lb barbel. Reece Valler was second with 4lb12oz, including a 2lb 6oz carp, with Luke Samson third with 4lb 5oz. Other freshwater results include a massive 60lb 12oz carp for Tony Pocock of Densole, landed from Etange du Bois near Vitry in France. I was on the trip and took a personal best common carp of 47lb 12oz. The third match in the Cinque Ports Angling Society’s Willing Cup took place at the members’ stretch of the Royal Military canal midweek. Winner and leader of the series by one point was Cheriton’s Wesley Shrubsole with 6.650kg of mostly skimmer bream. Second was Paul Musson, of Dymchurch, with 3.650kg and third Mickey Jones, of Hythe, with 910g. In the club’s weekend event, fished at the Light Railway/ Gem section, the winner was Snodland’s Ken Watson with 4.940kg of bream. Second was Andy Camber of Maidstone with 3.920kg and third, Les Foster of Shepway. The current hot spot for sea anglers is the Admiralty pier extension at Dover and the Herne Bay beaches (Beltinge and Reculver) where smoothhoun­ds to 17lb have been landed in the evenings on peeler crab.
