Knight left feeling frustrated

Tenterden

Tenterden captain Tevis Knight feels the points awarded for his side’s game against HSBC in Division 1 on Saturday were not a fair reflection on the game. Tenterden were only two wickets from victory and four overs from completing the game when time ran out after rain delays. Knight (pictured) said: “It was massively frustrating because we felt we deserved to get more out of the game in terms of points. “You have to give credit to the umpires though, they managed to get us back out there and gave us a chance of finishing the game. “We needed to bowl 18 overs before the cut off point to finish the game but only managed 14.” Tenterden made 288-7 off their overs with big scores coming from Andrew Crawford (101) and Leus Du Plooy (94). Knight said: “Andrew Crawford used all of his experience to get a big score. “It was great for him as he has got scores of 40s and 50s and this week he converted his start.” HSBC were 175-8 after 51 overs when the cut off point for the game was reached with Tenterden needing just two wickets for the win or to complete four overs for a winning draw. The wickets were shared around between the bowlers as James Rand got 2-20 and Tim Curteis took 2-17. The result sees them seventh in the table but Knight believes there is more to come to the team. He said: “We are reknowned for being slow starts as we have a lot of university and private school players and this weekend we have some coming back. “We play The Mote on Saturday and in the last couple of years we have done well down there and if we do the basics right, I am sure we can get a good result.” It was an equally frustrating rain-affected day for Tenterden 2nd XI at home to Catford and Cyphers in Division 1. Tenterden bowled out Catford for 226 with good bowling performances by Rob Sparks (4-48) and Jay Parker (3-53). The home side, in response, were coasting to their target before the rain came. Off 31.4 overs they were 186-3 with Adam Ranson going well on 56 not out but the points were shared out after the game could not be finished.
