start but was overtaken by Death before he re-passed his rival’s car lovingly known as ‘The Beast’ at half-distance.

Looking set for victory, Richards was forced to retire his Metro on lap 12 when the wheel bearing collapsed.

Death was then gifted an easy victory but Richards says he’s preparing for a repeat duel next year.

He said: “He wants a return match and I feel good about it – I am strong at Brands.

“He said he so enjoyed the race and that was the hardest he had driven that car.

“I wish him well, he’s a good driver but I have got more experience than him. I’m a sly old fox and I hunt my prey.” Smarden’s Roy Gray braved a weekend of rain to finish 11th in the Caterham Eurofest at Circuit Park in Zandvoort, Holland. Returning to a track he had not raced on for two years, Gray was hindered by three yellow flags in qualifying on the Saturday and ended up starting the first race in 22nd place. Avoiding collisions after a good start, he found himself 14th after the first lap but finished the race in 15th, where he would start in the second race. With a heavy downpour greeting racers on the Sunday, Gray (pictured) again started well and quickly made his way up to 10th. Unlike some of his fellow racers, the 50-year-old was unfazed by the wet and greasy conditions and finished 11th. The next Caterham Motorsport race weekend will take place on July 18 and 19 at Castle Combe in Wiltshire.
