Fundraisers to enjoy their tee and cake
The Great Smarden Bake Off and golf tuition from a leading coach are two of the latest events being held in the village’s Sporting September programme to raise cash to fit out the new sports pavilion.
This Sunday, the Paul Foston Golf Academy in Chessenden Lane, Smarden will open its doors between 2pm and 5pm for visitors to take part in a range of golfing activities for both beginners and experienced players.
The afternoon includes a ninehole putting competition (£2 for adults, £1 for children) to win a golf shirt and a nearest the pin short game of golf (£3 for adults, £2 children) to win a golf lesson with Paul Foston.
Judging
Paul’s wife Angie will be hosting the Great Smarden Bake Off that afternoon.
Everyone is invited to bake a cake, any recipe, and take it to Appletrees by 2.15pm, with judging starting at 2.30pm.
The best cake baker wins a dinner for two at the Stramacchio Italiano restaurant at Elvey Farm in Pluckley.
Other activities include pub games this Saturday from 7pm at the Flying Horse pub while next Tuesday, Smarden’s Short Mat Bowls Club hosts an open session to try out the game in the Charter Hall from 6pm to 9pm. Cost is £1, with free tea or coffee.
