Cake sale is all their own work

-

A trio of little girls organised a cake sale to raise funds for the wildlife centre near their school.

Mini-entrepreneurs Isla Hardwick, seven, and six-year-olds Scarlett Adams and Talia Simpson, attend Smarden Primary School and the Wildlife Heritage Foundation in Headcorn Road is on their doorstep.

The youngsters produced their own posters advertising their cake sale and got their parents to contact the Kentish Express to publicise it – and our radio station kmfm, which featured Isla last Thursday, the day of the sale.

The girls made more than 100 cakes, including victoria sponge, fairy cakes, rocky road cakes and biscuits, which filled a 6ft table.

Melanie Smith, Smarden’s head of school said: “The girls were like true entrepreneurs and they told their parents they didn’t want them to get involved as they were organising everything themselves.

“They set the price of the cakes and did their own public relations. They even asked our school secretary to remind parents via parent mail to bring in money for their cake sale.

“The school is very proud of the girls and we held a celebration assembly to congratulate them on their achievements.”

Around £30 was made from the cake sale and now the primary in Pluckley Road will hold a dressup day on May 26 where pupils are invited to come to school in animal costumes to raise more funds for the Wildlife Heritage Foundation.
