Latham could return in Championship
Overseas star Tom Latham could come back into the reckoning as Kent return to red-ball cricket on Sunday against Glamorgan. The Kiwi batsman has been omitted from the white-ball team this week after making just 16 runs in his previous two 50-over appearances combined and 12 in his sole innings in two T20 appearances. In their first Championship game for three weeks Kent will be seeking to follow-up their 10-wicket romp against the Welsh last month – a match which saw Latham share two opening century stands with Daniel BellDrummond. His 53 and 79 not out made him the first Kent player to score fifties in each innings of their first appearance, though he had 35 runs in the three Championship innings before their white-ball block. Skipper Sam Northeast admitted: “There have been selection dilemmas for the past few weeks – to leave someone like Tom out is unbelievable, an international player. “He’s been brilliant, supporting the team, he’s a great man to have in the changing room – he’s quality. “It shows you where we are as a side at the moment if he’s not getting in the side.” Northeast admitted the squad would be amended after Friday night’s T20 in Cardiff, adding: “Some people driving up on Saturday and some driving back. “Tom is a high quality player but we felt like we needed an extra bowler to balance the side out.
