Development recognised at regional competition
A new landmark building in Ashford has won an award.
The Chamberlain Manor development in Simone Weil Avenue was one of several Ashford schemes and companies that were among the winners and nominees at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards held last month in Brighton.
Michael Manlove from Pentland Homes was the winner of the LABC Site Agent of the Year, for Chamberlain Manor.
The development, run by Housing & Care 21, is an Extra Care scheme, which offers self-contained apartments with care services based on-site as well as various communal facilities such as a restaurant, hair salon and a guest room.
Meanwhile Jenner Construction were highly commended in the Best Partner with Local Authority Building Control Team category and Cox Restoration were highly commended in the Best Change of Use of an Existing Building or Conversion classification for their work on Church Farm, Church Hill, High Halden.
The LABC awards recognise and reward the most forward thinking people and organisations and the most innovative construction projects completed over the last year.
They highlight the importance of Building Control in achieving high standards.
Building owners, architects, contractors or building control surveyors can all submit nominations and award categories range from small domestic projects to commercial projects.
Cllr Mike Bennett, Ashford Borough Council’s portfolio holder for planning and development, said: “Congratulations to everyone who picked up an award. This demonstrates that Ashford has some excellent design and construction projects being delivered across the borough which is helping to build a reputation for high standards and is inspiring others to come up with bold and innovative plans.
“These awards recognise the depth of talent in the community among our skilled tradesmen and women but also show that the borough has talent to match the ambition and the highest of standards demanded by our planning and Building Control teams. This combination is building a better borough.”
The regional winners automatically qualify for the grand finals which will be held in London in November.
