- By Vicky Castle

New welcome signs displayed at the entrance of Repton Park’s play areas have been designed by two young residents.

Serena Swepston, nine, and Daisy Eland, three, won a competition with their impressive artwork.

Youngsters in the borough were asked to put their artistic skills to the test to come up with creative signage for three play areas in Repton Park: Lime Row Play Space, Oaks Play Space and Birches Play Space.

The competition was run by developers Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon Homes in partnership with Ashford Borough Council (ABC).

Serena’s entry is displayed in Birches and Oaks play spaces, while Daisy’s has been installed at the Limes Row site.

The girls received a framed photo of their designs and a £30 gift voucher each.

Cllr Peter Feacey, member for Godinton Ward, said: “Thank you to all the local young people who sent in their artistic and imaginative pieces of work.

“They were of a very high standard, which made the competition difficult to judge.

“Well done to everyone who entered and congratulations to our winners.

“The colourful and creative winning designs will look excellent displayed across Repton Park’s new play areas.”

Jason Stokes, Taylor Wimpey South East sales and marketing director, added: “We think that the new signs designed by Serena and Daisy are very eye-catching and add a lovely, welcoming touch to these busy play areas.”

Tom Wright, managing direc- tor for Persimmon Homes South East, also congratulated the girls on the new signs.

Mr Wright added: “They are a unique and delightful addition that will brighten up the play spaces, helping to strengthen the strong community feel at Repton Park.”
