Community prepares to honour memory of fallen
Remembrance services and events will take place across Ashford this weekend following Armistice Day tomorrow (Friday).
Schools, workplaces and organisations across the borough will fall silent at 11am alongside the rest of the country.
Then on Sunday church services, parades and events at war memorials will honour the fallen.
On Remembrance Sunday (November 13) there will be a wreath-laying ceremony and a minute’s silence in the Memorial Gardens, off Church Road, Ashford.
The service follows a parade of veterans, cadets and Royal British Legion members from St Mary’s Church Hall through the town centre at 10.35am.
Ashford MP Damian Green, Mayor of Ashford Cllr George Koowaree, the deputy lord lieutenant of Kent and Ashford’s RBL president will be among those attending. Other services include: Brabourne, Brabourne Baptist Church at 10.30am Challock, St Cosmas & St Damian, service at 10.45am Charing 10.45am service, with a parade of uniformed associations going up the high street from 10.30am Charing Heath, Holy Trinity Church, Remembrance service 10.45am Chilham, wreath-laying at the war memorial at 10.45am, followed by a service at the parish church
Crundale and Godmersham, joint service at Crundale Church at 10.40am
