Move to Homelands has benefits for everyone
AFC Ashford Athletic have agreed a deal with Ashford United to groundshare at Homelands next season.
Representatives from the two clubs met last week and the news will allow AFC to continue their bid to gain election to the Kent County League next season from the Maidstone & District League, Premier Division.
The reserves plan to apply to join the Maidstone & District League and will continue to play on the 3G pitch at Swadelands School in Lenham.
Player-manager Stuart Kingnorth is delighted to be given the opportunity to move in with United but says it brings added responsibility.
He said: “With this new partnership comes an even greater need for every member to behave and conduct themselves in a professional and mature manner.
“We have been selected to join Ashford United in partnership, not because we are the biggest, the most successful or the richest club in the area because we aren’t.
“We were selected because of our reputation for putting football first and running things in an ethical and fair manner.
“Our reputation is everything so every player, every manager, every helper and every supporter must continue to uphold and exceed the current standards.
“We would like to go on record to thank the United chief executive (Denise Peach) and everyone at Ashford United for bringing this opportunity to us.
