Drivers must share blame on roads

-

Regarding the problems with Barrey Road and the A2070, I travel from the Outlet Centre along to junction 10 several times a week and find few problems, providing you obey the speed limits and follow the rules of the road.

I think the problems that are created are caused by the person holding the steering wheel. At times I feel as though I have strayed onto the Brands Hatch circuit.

I have never won a race, though. P. A. Foster Grantley Close, Ashford

It was encouraging to read that the Joint Transportation Board has finally taken the Barrey Road junction issue seriously and is proposing to put in traffic signals.

But surely there will still be a problem with people crossing from the other carriageway into Barrey Road.

If the traffic is doing a steady 40mph, there will be little or no opportunity to cross and drivers will be forced, out of frustration, to take a risk in crossing through the endless stream of traffic.

I do hope that sense will prevail and they will change the junction, put traffic lights in all directions, allow people to turn right out of here, thus reducing the traffic going up to junction 10, bringing people to a complete halt coming up from the roundabout and down from junction 10, and making it safe in every way. Railway tracks, when needing repair, are supported by 24/7 working to get the job done, so causing as little inconvenience as possible to the travelling public.

So could you imagine the uproar if they suddenly said the line would remain closed but they were only going to work a normal working day and only partly at weekends!

Sadly, such out-dated working practices are just the norm for roads, hence the parttime working on one of Ashford’s busiest roads, the recently announced closing of Kennington Road for 11 weeks.

Even the threat of vast detours for ambulances going to the William Harvey Hospital does not seem to deter the second class treatment road users get every time.

We really do need a complete government reversal of its contempt it has for drivers. Terry Hudson Association of British Drivers
