Maverick display earns Wells win

Ashford & District Road Running Club’s Jon Wells won the 14k middistanc­e Maverick Trail Race on Saturday.

Held within the grounds of Groombridg­e Place, near Tunbridge Wells, he finished in 1hr02min46­sec – more than two-and-a-half minutes ahead of his closest rivals.

Father and son, Steve and Ricky Hickman took part in the Pyjamathon event in Surrey.

The race is a six-hour timed event where runners, wearing pyjamas rather than running gear, can complete as many or as few of the 3.28-mile laps of the outand-back course along the River Thames.

Ricky Hickman finished in 13th place overall, completing 26.2 miles in 4:30.03 followed by Steve Hickman in 17th in 4:39.57.

Anna-Lisa Stiffell took on the hilly Tonbridge Half-Marathon and was rewarded with a 14-minute PB, crossing the line in 1:48.15, finishing 248th overall.

Adrian Moody and Christine Costiff completed the undulating Sittingbou­rne 10-miler, finishing in 1:12.32 (70th) and 1:17.46 (120th) respective­ly.

Ashford & District runners featured heavily in the top 10 at the Ashford parkrun this weekend with Trevor Kay winning emphatical­ly in a time of 17.47, over a minute quicker than his closest competitor.

Paul Moses and Rob Barton finished fifth and sixth in 19.06 and 19.11 respective­ly, with Scott Lynch 19.21 (eighth) and Dean Bracken 19.59 completing the top 10.

Keith Haynes continued his good form in the lead-up to the Givaudan 10k at the weekend, narrowly missing out on a sub 20-minute finish in 20.09 (12th) and Chris Boyce closely followed in 20.13 (13th).

Other times: Terry Sellen 22.15 (36th), James Chapman 22.37 PB (38th), Rod Kessack 23.05 (43rd), Pat Butler 23.40 (51st), Elodie Paviot 23.51 (first lady for club and 57th overall), Will Whittingto­n 25.34 (87th), Mark Attenborou­gh 26.41 (106th), Sarah Homewood 27.15 PB (119th), Lucy Johnstone 27.39 PB (126th), Ann Fidge 29.26 (156th) and Jeremy Chambers 32.36 PB (170th).

Meanwhile, around the country, Stuart Nunn, fresh from his marathon PB the previous week, finished 16th in the Whitstable parkrun in a time of 21.39.

Gill O’Connor was 46th at the Riddlesdow­n parkrun, near Croydon, in 23.49.
