Win continues impressive run

It’s now four wins in a row for Ashford’s 2nd XV in Late Red 3 after they beat Leigh 35-31 on Saturday.

They’d secured a bonus point by half-time, running in four tries to open up a 25-7 lead.

Glen Collins, Scott Booth and Max Jordan all touched down for Ashford with Ollie Gray kicking a penalty and Adam Kelsey converting one of the four tries.

Leigh came back strongly in the second half and although the home side scored two more tries, one from Jason Cragg, they were left hanging on with a player in the sin-bin at the end.

Ashford 3rds came from behind to beat Tonbridge Juddians 5ths 34-24 in Cinque 4 East.

They conceded the first score but two Peter Wickens tries soon had them in the box seat.

TJs responded with a try and a penalty but Gareth Scott crossed for Ashford to make it 21-17 at half-time.

Andrew Morris touched down after the break to earn Ashford a bonus point and although the visitors went over to stay in the game, Johann du Toit moved the hosts clear before Wickens completed his hat-trick.

Ashford vets won 19-12 at home to Canterbury in the first of this season’s Veterans Cup matches.

Canterbury scored first but Charlie Vavasour crossed twice for Ashford and Martyn Hodgey also recorded a try to put the home side in control.

A converted try 10 minutes from time gave Canterbury hope but Ashford dug deep to hold on for the win.
