Woman accused of cyclist’s death

A young woman accused of causing the death of a cyclist appeared before Folkestone Magistrate­s’ Court on Wednesday of last week.

Ayasha Penfold, of King Street, Brenzett, is accused of killing John Durey on the A2070 in Kingsnorth on May 31.

Mr Durey was taking part in an organised cycle and was heading towards Ashford at 7.20pm when he suffered serious injuries.

Penfold, 20, is charged with causing his death by dangerous driving.

Magistrate­s ordered her to appear before Canterbury Crown Court on December 13.

She was released on unconditio­nal bail.

Mr Durey, 69, from Lenham, was taken to Kings College Hospital in London with multiple injuries and put into an induced coma. He died five days later. He was described by son Oliver as an “inspiratio­nal father who was always extremely patient and nurturing”.
