Anger at verges left in mess

Residents are calling on the council to take action after constant rubbish dumping along the A2070.

The path and grass verge alongside the busy road between the Park Farm roundabout and Finn Farm are covered in litter, ranging from plastic bottles to food wrappers, some of which has been shredded when the grass has been cut.

Charles Murray-Roscoe, who has lived in the area for six and a half years, said it was not the first time rubbish had been strewn all over the verge.

“It’s absolutely full of mess,” he said. “I’ve noticed in the past 12 to 18 months that the road hasn’t been cleared or cleaned regularly, and then when grass is cut the paper and mess is not been picked up.

“The litter has all been shredded up on the pathways and it has left the road in a very messy state.”

Mr Murray-Roscoe, who uses the pathway and road regularly added: “It concerns me greatly because it gives a very bad impression of Ashford and of the Garden of England.

“I think Ashford Borough Council (ABC) seriously need to look when they cut grass that they remove the litter first, not only does it look messy but it also is attracting rodents and it’s an environmental health issue

“In order to set an example, you have to lead by an example and if the council want people to be litter free and to pick it up then they need to do something about it.”

An ABC spokesman said: “We are aware of the strewn litter along the footpath near the A2070.

“Our contractor, Biffa, will be visiting the site in due course to clear the area.

“Residents are reminded they can report environmental issues directly to the council using the online Report It forms at www.ashford.gov.uk/ report/ ”
