Woodchurch lead goal-scoring blitz

-

There were plenty of goals in league and cup matches at the weekend – 53 in just six games.

Woodchurch rattled in 12, Lenham Wanderers Reserves 11, while Lydd Town 3rds conceded 10 against Faversham side The Bull.

Bill Beaney scored a hat-trick and there were doubles for Ant Bodle, Ollie Sargeant and Jon Barnes as Woodchurch beat Towers View 12-1 in the League Cup, Group B.

Strikes from Gavin Smeed and Julian Collett and an own goal made up the Woodchurch tally.

Goals from Oli Prior (2), Elliot King and Sam West gave Charing a 4-0 win at Ashford Athletic Reserves in the Ashford Charity Cup.

The Bull were more emphatic winners – 10-2 against Lydd Town 3rds.

The Canterbury League Division 1 side took the lead within minutes of the start and were 4-0 ahead at half-time.

At the start of the second half, centre-half Jordan Spann got one back for Lydd but again the Faversham side showed they were the better team, scoring five more goals.

There was another goal for Lydd when Allen Sterling scored from 25 yards and the visitors went close when Michael Lindsay hit the bar and Tom Cullam shot wide. The Bull keeper also made good saves from Spann.

There was a minute’s silence before the game for Phill Castle.

Hythe Grovellers chalked up their second win in the Premier Division, beating Folkestone Invicta. In Division 1, leaders South Willesborough beat Lydd Marsh 5-3, a game in which Ryan Carter was another hat-trick man.

Carter opened the scoring but Lydd Marsh stormed back to take a 2-1 lead. Willesborough’s Matt Boulden equalised but the visitors had edged ahead again by the break.

The second half belonged to South Willesborough. Boulden sent Carter on his way to make it 3-3 and then scored another one for himself. Carter got his hat-trick, latching on to a long kick downfield from keeper Anthony Lee.

Boulden was man-of-the-match. Marsh’s goals were scored by Billy Chincharo (2) and Ben Edgar.

Lenham Wanderers Reserves were too good for Biddenden, beating the Division 1 bottom-placed team 11-1.
