YOUTH FOOTBALL ROUND-UP: LEADERS CARVE OUT CONVINCING VICTORY

-

Two goals each from Noah Carney and Callum Austin helped Kennington under-14s maintain top spot in the Kent Youth League with a 5-0 win at Bredhurst. Bredhurst started well, forcing Kennington into early errors but good covering and recovery prevented the hosts from taking the lead. Kennington gradually took hold of the game and started to create chances. Brandon Care provided a perfect ball for Carney who ran across the defender and scored, putting Kennington a goal up at half-time. The second half saw Kennington increasing the pressure and Austin put the visitors 2-0 ahead. The last part of the match saw Kennington dominate and further goals followed with Carney and Austin both scoring again, together with one from Tom Ramsden. A penalty, slotted home by captain Alfie Prior following a challenge on Tony Rai, gave Ashford United under14s a 2-1 win against Kings Hill in the Kent Youth League. The first goal had come 10 minutes into the second half from Ashford’s Rueben London-Hobbs but Kings Hill equalised within five minutes. Ashford United under-14s’ East Kent Youth League side continued their fine start in Division 2, with a 3-3 draw at Folkestone – goals coming from Ed Milloy (2) and Owen Smith. Player-of-the-match Ewan Monkley had an excellent game on the right wing and caused Folkestone plenty of problems with his pace. Ashford were leading 3-2 with four minutes to go but Folkestone levelled through a stunning free-kick that gave keeper Henry Cornbill no chance. Ashford, second in the table, are at home to Herne Bay Harriers on Sunday.
