‘Wrong way’ driver does not enter plea
A man accused of driving the wrong way along a main road while under the influence of alcohol withheld his plea in court. Paul Ceparu, 23, was allegedly spotted driving his silver Mazda 6 the wrong way along the A2070 Bad Munstereifel Road on the evening of November 25, when police were alerted. A patrol later discovered Ceparu, of Christchurch Road, inside the vehicle in Field Road and over the drink-drive limit, Folkestone Magistrates’ Court heard last Wednesday. Ceparu, who appeared with the aid of an interpreter, was also found to be uninsured on the vehicle according to prosecutor Neil Sweeney. A police breathalyser found Ceparu had 62 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit is 35 microgrammes. Defence lawyer Alan Land told magistrates his client’s plea was withheld while experts investigate an alleged fault on the car. Ceparu, who was dressed in green jogging bottoms and a light colour jumper was released on unconditional bail and will appear before Canterbury Crown Court on January 30.
