No more excuses over theatre
Gerry Clarkson’s ‘Council Talk’ column (December 10) seems very pleased to polish his ego over the council’s ever expanding acquisition of “long term assets that will produce an income”. But enough is enough and it’s time now to lift the town out of its cultural wasteland and provide residents with a suitable venue for our entertainment, be it plays, concerts, pop groups, bands, comedians - something for everyone. We do not want vague suggestions that we MAY get a theatre in four or five years - we’ve heard it all before - so stop making excuses and convert the Mecca building into a theatre now. And then forward plan for the plush modern theatre you want at some future date. D. M. Matthews, Willesborough
