Traffic danger near development

-

Is it a road,is it a footpath or is it shared space? Past correspondents were right to be concerned about the layout of the area that fronts the new Elwick Place development. On the morning after Boxing Day at quarter to nine, crossing at the designated traffic light controlled crossing, I came face to face, when turning left to walk towards the cinema, with a motorist travelling towards the bolt along the newly-laid red-brick area between the street lights and the boundary of the cinema. The area extends beyond the pedestrian crossing, ending at the bus bay. Motorists are treating this new area as a second lane towards the bolt, passing the traffic lights on the wrong side. This is dangerous practice like turning left at the lower High Street onto Station Road but nobody listens not until it is too late. Barry Lawrance, Gordon Close, Ashford
