ASHFORD STRIDERS: HURLEY STARTS YEAR WITH EPIC PARKRUN DOUBLE

Ashford Striders have had a busy festive season, taking part in several parkruns and longer challenges.

Rebecca Hurley travelled to Scandinavi­a to complete an epic New Year’s Day double challenge.

She finished the Amager Faelled parkrun in Denmark in 27min 47sec before travelling to another country entirely, across the water to Malmo in Sweden to run the parkrun there, which she completed in 29.42.

Kath Atkinson ran at Hilton, South Africa, recording a time of 28.43.

Lee Standen and Tyree Spicer took on the Walmer & Deal parkrun completing the course in 32.20 and 32.26 respective­ly. Simon Jackson ran at Lancing Beach Green in a time of 29.09.

In Saturday’s Ashford parkrun, first home for Striders was Ross Sadd (20.42) in fifth place. Linda-Jean Delport was second-placed female in 22.22. Daniel Forbes completed the 5k in 23.54. Five Striders took on the Saxon Shore lap challenge, with Peter Lane and Cris Francis completing the marathon distance of five laps in 5:11.43 and 5:11.49 respective­ly.

Ian Dunning completed three laps (15.75 miles) in 2:57.04. Lee Standen achieved two laps (10.5 miles) in 2:02.52 and Tyree Spicer achieved one lap (5.25 miles) in 1:12.59.

Jason Wearn, Justine Wearn and Nicola Crawley ran the festive season run together in a time of 43:08 at the Saltwood Boxing Day three-mile race. Linda-Jean Delport was the lone Strider at the Staplehurs­t 10 mile run, where she achieved a PB time of 1:16.20.

Jason Sanders had an excellent run in the Lamberhurs­t 10k on New Year’s Day, with a time of 50.49. Sara Hunt finished in 1:00.01 with Willem Delport was close behind in 1:02.21. Toyah Bicker ran 1:12.52 and Danielle Mackenzie in 1:12.56. In the 5k at the venue, Justin Burden completed the route in 30.54, followed by Kirsty Theobald and Allison Button finishing in 44.17 and Danielle Moss in 47.52.

On New Year’s Day, Cris Francis (28.26, 30.24) Lee Standen (29.15, 28.52) Simon Jackson (30.13, 30.33), Ian Dunning (28.27, 30.23) and Tyree Spicer (31.51, 34.35) completed the Maidstone and Shorne Woods ‘double’.
