Denly: It’s two points dropped

-

Sam Denly admitted Hythe dropped two points when they were held to a goalless draw at Reachfields on Saturday.

A win against Haywards

Heath would have moved the Cannons level on points with their Sussex opponents just below the Bostik South East play-offs.

But Hythe drew a blank at home in the league for the first time this season.

Denly said: “You’d have to say it’s two points dropped.

“I know they’re going well but, possession-wise, we dominated the game and we just looked rusty in the final third.

“We lacked a little bit of quality. It’s an area where we haven’t struggled previously but our final ball let us down.” Haywards Heath went closest in the first half with Max

Miller forcing a good save from George Kamurasi and Alex Laing hitting the post.

After the break, Jack Sammoutis set up Zak Ansah for a shot which flew wide and Ansah then had a goal disallowed for offside. However, it needed a fine save from Kamurasi to deny Callum Saunders a winning goal right at the death.

That ensured back-to-back clean sheets in the league for the first time this season. “That’s a massive plus,” said Denly. “It was a good performance on Saturday. “I know it’s a game we wanted to win but we hadn’t had a game for two weeks and I thought we looked solid. “We’ve struggled to keep clean sheets this season so that was very pleasing. Ollie Rowe came in and had an excellent game. He was man-of-the-match for a few so he’s settled in straight away. He was outstanding; his organising, talking and his positional play was excellent. “It was an OK performance to be honest. We need to go on a winning run but we’ll take the point and move on.”

Hythe: Kamurasi, Kisitu, Webster, Kinnear, Rowe, Dickenson, Palmer (Neita 73mins), Fagan (Lyoubi 90mins), Ansah, Aikhionbare (Sammoutis 58mins), Campbell. Subs not used: Capel, Carney.

Attendance: 189.
