Graffiti yob hunt after play park hit

- By Sam Williams swilliams@thekmgroup.co.uk

The hunt is on for a prolific graffiti vandal who has been leaving a ‘tag’ at different play areas in Ashford for the past two years.

The word ‘Agro’ has been scribbled on the new equipment at the outdoor gym at Great Chart Playing Fields, off Singleton Road, including an instruction board and the seat of an exercise bike.

The graffiti has also appeared on a slide at the new children’s park at the same playing fields.

But it is not the first time the ‘agro’ mark has appeared.

It was spotted written on the former youth shelter at the Oast Play Park, off Tithe Barn Lane, two years ago.

And members of Great Chart With Singleton Parish Council have now had enough.

Aniko Szocs, parish clerk, said: “The same signature keeps appearing over the past two years, previously at the youth shelter in Oast Play Park and now here at Great Chart.

“Every piece of equipment at the new play park and outdoor gym has been graffitied.

“It is very disappointing and heart-breaking to see brand new equipment being vandalised.

“We want people to be able to use it; it is there for everybody.

“Someone must know who is doing it. We thought they would have grown out of it by now.

“Fortunately the parish caretaker was able to remove the graffiti.”

This is not the first time the outdoor gym - which was installed in January this year costing thousands of pounds - has been deliberately damaged.

In April, arsonists set fire to the soft ground with the flames spreading to the equipment.

The cost to repair the damage was left to the parish council.
