Churchyard Work Party: Another tidying of the Churchyard. Saturday June 8, organised by the Local History Society. The work will start at 9am and it is hoped it will be finished by 12pm.
Appledore Smugglers: Our local football team had a bad start to their first season in the first division. For a while it looked like they would be returning to the second division. However, over the last few months, they have beaten most of the top teams and have ended up in the middle of the division. A pat on the back goes to Mark Hilden who has scored so many of the winning goals.

Newspaper collection: The next collection Saturday
June 2, 9.30am. Please remember we take birthday wrapping paper, birthday cards and any other paper based products and card
(hard card preferably like the card used for cereal boxes) as well as any TV guides, newspapers, magazines, books, directories etc. We don’t have much room for large corrugated cardboard boxes, whether they have been flattened or not. Please use small cardboard boxes (like the ones that take reams of photocopier/ printer paper) to put your newspapers in as these are the most efficient way of collecting your papers, are just about the right weight for a Guide or Scout to lift and can go straight from collection vehicle to skip. All proceeds go towards improving our Scouts and Guide facilities.

Permitted: Ashford BC has given its permission for the conversion of a redundant stable block to a four bedroom house plus conversion of a current garage to a farm office, demolition of a large recent pre-fabricated agricultural shed, plus erection of a new detached timber garage building plus alterations to external surfaces. This is a revision to a previous planning permission.
Church: The congregation at last Sundays lay-led Service totalled that of a usual Communion Sunday. The Service was led by Gerry Willis with Geoff Jenkins and Tony Dodd reciting Epistle readings, Geoff also lead the prayers and read Banns of Marriage for the forthcoming Marriage in July of Alexander Rafik Zahr-Iddin and Jessica Sarah Main. This was the first time of asking.

The next members’ outing will be on Wednesday June 12 to Balmoral Cottage, Benenden. The garden is an eclectic mix of hardy perennials in a framework of topiary hedges and sentinels of all shapes and sizes. Footpaths: Janet Gwillim reports that most of the footpaths around the village are in very good order but, regretfully, some people are walking on farmer’s’ fields where there are no footpaths. Janet suggests that a local footpath map would be most useful. The matter can, perhaps, be dealt with through KCC Footpaths.
Village Hall: Work on the new extension has been completed and plans are now being made for the next stage that will include a new kitchen and tidying up the outside. Finance is an important consideration, and in this respect the village hall committee is active with fund raising by organising events and securing bookings. Soon Wi-Fi, to be provided by the Parish Council, will be available.
Yoga and Nutrition: Saturday June15, 10am-1pm, a Yoga and Nutrition Workshop. Yoga with Keighley will focus on moves to help improve digestion, breathing techniques and creating a calm mind and body.
