Paul McDonnell was the first home for Ashford Striders in Saturday’s parkrun at Victoria Park, taking eighth place in a time of19min 24sec.

Kath Atkinson was next for the club, in a personal best of 20.21, 14th overall and second female finisher.

Alison Waters and Cris Francis ran in Bedgebury parkrun, finishing in 26.11 (38th overall and 9th female) and 26.12 (39th overall) respective­ly.

■ Three members of the club raced at the challengin­g and undulating course through the Rye countrysid­e.

Paul McDonnell clocked 1:10.50 in the Rye 10 mile race. LindaJean Delport finished first in the VW45-49 category (1:17.14), while Reece Corner came home in 1:34.55.

Shelly Blake took on the Rock and Roll Marathon through Liverpool on Sunday, finishing in a time of 6:27.16. Christophe­r Sardo and Garry McIntosh competed in the Edinburgh Marathon where Sardo timed 3:55.47 and McIntosh 4:25.02. Cris Francis and Alison Waters were first to finish for the club in the Vitality London 10k, setting identical times of 50.44. Pam Hunt 1:22.24. Ashford Golf Club’s first team cruised smoothly through to the semi-final of the East Kent League Cup with a 4-1 win over visitors Chestfield.

James Wright and Callum Gardiner led the way with their 3&2 win, while Mark Penfold and Mark Moore, and Kevin Smith and Sam Osborne, continued their winning partnershi­ps.

The new pairing of Mel Head and Gary Barnett triumphed 2up, the day’s only losers Jack Owen and David Bible.

Another big field challenged for the club’s Centenary Trophy and coming out on top was new member Tul Chanyal who carded a net 62 to give him a four-shot win over Mike Wood. Ben Hearnden was third.

The lowest gross score of the day was a round of 75 by Jack Owen.

A card countback was required to separate Allan Crust and Sam Osborne who both signed for scores of 69 in the May Weekday Medal, where Mark Moore shot a 73 for the lowest gross.

Winner of the over-70s’ ninehole competitio­n was Jim Symonds with 20 points, edging Graham Hoy. Sue Canney and Ginny Zlabiene combined well to notch 39 points to lift the ladies’ Major Cups event.

Canney was part of an Ashford team that also featured Pauline Pfeffer and Elaine Campbell who were fourth in the Texas Scramble at Sittingbou­rne. Beryl Sutherland and Karen Pickering toasted their respective wins in the Par Bogey tournament.
