ASHFORD STRIDERS: DELPORT LEADS WAY IN OWLER 10K

There was a strong finish from Ashford Striders in the Owler

10k at the Julie Rose Stadium on Sunday.

Linda-Jean Delport took first place overall in a time of 46.06. Clubmate Nicki Crawley was the next Strider home in 56.41 (first in age category), followed by Justine Wearn 57.56 (also first in age category).

In the Owler half marathon, Paul McDonnell finished in third place in 1hr 38min 41sec and Christophe­r Sardo was sixth overall in 1:46.21. Sara Hunt completed her first halfmarath­on race in 2:05.56 and first in her age category, while Alison Waters finished in 2:07.53 and Cris Francis in 2:12.06 (first in his age category).

Dave Hunt completed his 17th marathon, being the only Strider to complete the 26.2 miles, in a time of 4:52.18.

Jacob Henwood led the way for the Striders in the third of the Friends of Victoria Park Summer Series 5k, winning in 20min 08sec.

Jake Davison was close behind, finishing in 20.35.

Delport was first home for the ladies in 22.06.

Also representi­ng for the Striders were Shane Snowwolf (23.19), Justin Burden (23.23), Josh Whiten (23.46), Sara Hunt (29.15), Rachel Theobold (30.43) and Kevin York 30.44.

With the cancellati­on of Ashford parkrun due to some predicted bad weather there was some last-minute tourism from many Striders.

Running at Folkestone were: Hazel Forrester (33.04), Brian Forrester (32.09), Nicki Crawley (27.14), Justine Wearn (27.59) and Jason Wearn (28.01),

Jacob Henwood (20.03) and

Becca Hurley (28.32) travelled to Maidstone, and Josh Whiten (24.43) was the sole Strider in Whitstable. Hurley (29.06) and Brian Marsh (23.26) tackled the Great Run Local on Sunday.
