ATHLETICS: COSTIFF FULL OF PUFF AS SHE SECURES THIRD PLACE FINISH AT ROTHER

Christine Costiff of Ashford & District Road Runners was third lady and first female vet-50 in the Rother Valley 10k on Sunday.

After running five miles to the start line at Northiam Steam Railway Station, Costiff was primed for the race.

The hilly course took runners along country lanes, finishing in the picturesqu­e grounds of Bodiam Castle and despite the heat, and numerous inclines, Costiff crossed the finish line in 49min 7sec.

Dan Green (18.19) was fifth overall in the latest Ashford parkrun.

Chris Boyce clocked 21.54, with Don Dewar next best in 22.27.

Rod Kessack (24.19), Terry Sellen (24.41) and Will Whittingto­n (24.48) all ran sub-25 minute times, with Keith Lynn (25.52), Emma Jenkins (38.11) and Julie Foster (42.29) completing the line-up.

Mark Attenborou­gh enjoyed parkrun tourism in the Cotswolds running the Moreton-in-Marsh’s Fire Service College event which consisted of three laps, featuring tarmac, grass paths and woodland. Attenborou­gh completed the course in 21.13.

■ There was a strong turnout from Ashford Striders in the Ashford parkrun at Victoria Park where Paul McDonnell (18.29) and Kay Green (30.42) both secured personal best times.

Peter Broom travelled to the Medina Isle of Wight parkrun finishing in 31.14 while Shane Snowwolf (25.36) ran Canterbury and Tamsin Ritchie clocked 29.32 in the Great Lines event.

On Sunday a selection of Striders took part in the weekly Great Run Local at Kingsnorth Recreation Ground.

Greg Johnson was the first Strider to finish the 5k in 23.16, followed by Brian Marsh (23.33), Becca Hurley (28.45), Julie Virani (29.10) and Martin Whittingha­m (33.01). Jeannette French completed the 2k in 18.54.

Jacob Henwood represente­d the Striders, competing i n his first marathon in Richmond. He completed the 26.2 miles in 3:45.01.
