Out in all weathers

-

Ahead of the new winter season Ashford Netball League’s summer 2019 presentation night was held at Courtside, Stanhope Road.

The Summer League runs from February until July meaning that teams had to endure various weather conditions from freezing rain to blazing sunshine.

However, the amazing organisation by committee members meant that cancelled games were efficiently re-scheduled.

There were medals for each division’s Star Players of the Season which were, Premier Division, Courtney Rose and Sophie McDonnell with six nominations each; First Division, Sophie Parrock with five nominations, and Second Division, Terrie Ireland with seven nominations.

The league’s umpires have been recognised for their hard work and contributions to the league and Isabelle Wren, Jo Legg, Georgia Harris, Gemma Lilly and Nicky Beeching received the most nominations for Favourite Umpire.

This season, Nicky Beeching is retiring from umpiring and playing in the league and she will be sorely missed by her team and other players.

Ashford Netball League encourage members and players to take the England Netball pathway to becoming umpires as new umpires are needed to enable the league to continue.

This season Georgina Wren, Georgia Harris, Isabelle Wren and Gemma Lilly have all attained their ‘C’ Award which allows them to umpire netball games at local league level.

Winners and runners-up from the Premier, First and Second Divisions were awarded with their individual and team trophies.

Homewood were the Premier Division champons.

■ Ashford Netball League are always open to new members.

Netball at Courtside is played at many different levels including junior netball for younger players, league netball for experienced players and walking netball for older players or those returning from injury.
