Off- road challenges were presented to Ashford & District RRC members at the weekend.

The club rose to the occasion at Ashford Tri Club’s 666 race at Kings Wood, Challock, on Sunday, taking first place team prize.

The heavy and persistent recent rain made for extremely muddy conditions.

Tamsin Ritchie and Danielle Moss completed the 2k in 13.29 and 16.18 respectively.

The four sides in the running for the two promotion spots in Division 2 of the Ashford League took on each other. Ruckinge B, who have slipped from top spot to fourth recently, defeated first-placed Ashford B 6-4.

Ruckinge stormed into a 5-1 lead, thanks in no small part to Chris Cloake, who won deciding legs in all three of his matches to score 100% on the night.

But Ashford fought back, winning three of the last four matches to limit the damage. Second-placed Challock B, who have lost only once all season, defeated third-placed Hamstreet 6-4.

Four of the league’s topranked players – Cliff Ball and Steve Smith for Challock, and Ben Brown and Martin Yeandle for Hamstreet – were in action.

Challock’s Ball and Smith won all three of their matches. Hamstreet, however, responded by taking the other three singles matches, and Brown and Yeandle won the doubles.

Challock’s victory was enough to propel them to the top spot.

A strong Postling B side took on Sportsmen A. Last season’s top player in the averages, Douglas Ho, was looking to regain some form – and he took full advantage of a lacklustre performance by Postling’s star man Roy Coles to win 3-1.

Sportsmen led 4-1 at the halfway mark thanks to Ho (3/3) and Howard Brightling (2/3).

However, Russell Swain won two out of his three matches as Postling fought back to make the final score 5-5.
