under the Nuts & Bolts keeper after just 18 minutes.

The hosts then made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time – Zak Ansah netting his 11th league goal of the season after brilliantly firing past United’s captain.

But like the previous Tuesday night’s dramatic 4-3 victory at Whyteleafe, the Homelands side produced a great second-half showing, and substitute Tashi-Jay Kwayie made it 2-1 inside the penalty box with just 15 minutes left on the clock.

As the game entered its final stages, Smith once again got himself on the scoresheet for Tommy Warrilow’s side. The No.9 fizzed in the equaliser with just a minute left.

Ashford United’s Velocity Trophy journey came to an end on Tuesday, despite the team beating Faversham

Town 4-2 at Homelands in their final group game.

United finished second in Group 7 on 10 points, three behind winners Ramsgate. Ashford first-team coach Louis Dean said: “I’m reasonably happy with the performance. We asked the boys to carry on the momentum from the last couple of results and I thought they did that.

“During the second-half we did well to make it 3-0, and fair play to Faversham – they started a bit of a comeback and gave it a bit of a go.”

It took the hosts just 13 minutes to open the scoring. Some crisp passing from Tommy Warrilow’s side ended with Lee Prescott driving his way through the final third, and he slipped the ball into striker Levi Gold who saw his left-footed shot find its way into the far corner.

Ashford doubled their account 20 minutes later – defender Jake McIntyre unleashing a free-kick that left Faversham keeper Luke Watkins no chance.

McIntyre was also involved in Ashford’s third. He picked out forward Theo Osinfolarin who duly smashed home from close range.

Despite two quick-fire Faversham goals late on, from Max Morgan and Anthony Adesite, United defender and man-of-the-match Mo Kamara sealed the win with eight minutes left. The centreback picked the ball up in his own half and dribbled his way through the entire Town defence before curling beautifully past Watkins.
