Late strikes send Brews top

Two late goals from midfielder Frank Godfrey saw Brewmaster come back from behind and move to the top of the Premier Division with a 4-3 victory over Mersham Sports.

The Brews had trailed 3-1 with just over 20 minutes left, but three goals in the final quarter of the game including Godfrey’s brace saw John Ripley’s side extend their 100% winning start to the season to six games.

Brewmaster scored through Piers Fuchter for a 1-0 half-time lead. The visitors then took control with goals from playermana­ger Rob Clark (2) and Sam Wilson.

But their celebratio­ns were short-lived as Brews skipper Gary Clarke won and converted a 67th minute penalty to start the comeback. Godfrey levelled to make it 3-3 with 10 minutes to go and then seized on a loose ball before firing home from the edge of the area to send the Brews top.

Red Heathens grabbed an injury- time winner to see themselves through to the quarter-finals of the Bill Hills League Cup, getting the better of Lolzors 4-3 at Charing Heath.

Lewis Fuller popped up with the winning goal after efforts from Radoslav Davidov, Stuart Wilson and Craig Haynes had seen the Heathens take control. Farid White (2) and James Standen scored for Lolzors.

ISTHMIAN EAGUE South East Division final hurdle in their attempt to qualify for the countywide stage of the Kent Sunday Junior Cup.

They were knocked out 5-3 by West Kent Sunday League visitors Charcott.

Goals from Ashley Boyd, Will Bussey and Matt King were not enough.

Robbie Westbrook helped fire Folkestone United into the quarter-finals of the Val Helen League Cup as his four goals saw them to a 5-3 home won over Ashford Genclik.

Ryan Lowe added a fifth for United to cancel out two Emin Yalcin strikes and one from Dion Orris. Genclik’s six-game winning sequence ended with this defeat.

South Willesboro­ugh continued their recent excellent league and cup form, beating Park Farm Rangers 4- 3 in the preliminar­y round of the Division 2 League Cup.

Michael Norris’ penalty set the hosts on their way before longrange strikes from both Tom Brown and Rhys Pryor extended their lead.

Garry Blunden added a fourth with his first goal for the club. Rangers replied with goals from Daniel Marshall, Kieran Garvey and Adam Draper-Lewis.

Ashley Sales scored the only goal of the game as Folkestone United went top of Division 3 by defeating promotion rivals Ashford United 3rds.

Smeeth & Brabourne beat Aldington Reserves 4-2 with goals from Max Brady (2), James Evans and Kuba Grynko. Kevin

Ruane scored both Aldington goals.

Steve Warren proved a handful for bottom-of-the-table Kingsnorth Pilgrims as he scored six times to earn Pilgrims Sunday a 8-1 victory.

Further goals from Nathan Cook and Alfie Emblem rounded off a productive morning for the hosts.

Jordan Osborne hit a hat-trick to help Bromley Green Reserves into the last-eight of the Aford Awards League Cup as they thrashed Charing Reserves 9-2.

Casper Floyd and Jamie Dobbin both scored twice and Matt Burdon and Lennie Russell were also on target.

Nathan Lakra and Tony Spicer netted for Charing.

Two pupils from St Nicholas Primary Academy have made it through to the final selection phase of the county trials for under-11s. Rhys Lyon and Oscar Weight from the New Romney school were chosen from an initial group of 120 to be part of a 28 player squad for the final Kent Schools’ Football Associatio­n trials which take place in Gillingham.
