Hockey homes spark delight

-

I was delighted to read your article about the hockey club homes [Planning inspector overturns decision on hockey club homes, Kentish Express, June 11].

I am now 50 years old and I have been a member of the Ashford Hockey Club (AHC) on and off since 1983 and the place holds many very good memories for me and my family (née Robinsondaughter of Alex Robinson vice-president of AHC).

I am very impressed the AHC committee has managed to secure housing on the site to help fund improvements at the clubhouse itself.

While I appreciate that it is in some ways a ‘rural setting,’ it seems that you can still see the Wye Downs when looking carefully at the map.

It is fabulous that this doesn’t obscure this wonderful and unique view.

The homes proposed look like they are perfectly placed to the south and ‘in the corner’. The sale of these homes will secure funding for the club in years to come, much to the delight of new members coming through, especially youngsters (as long as they can afford the annual subscription!)

Thank you, Paul Dawson [club chairman] and the committee for your strength and endurance through much opposition in recent years. Hurrah for Ashford Hockey club, Kennington Juniors and sport in Ashford!

I feel for the people of Kennington, but on the other hand are not surprised by the Large Burton outcome, people should realise that their elected representatives mostly ignore what the people who elected them want, they follow the party line, the sooner the population wake up to this fact then we get some common sense in this town. All of this fight by the residents of Kennington is reminiscent of our fight over Chilmington Green, with the same characters involved, you must know the fact that the council always gets what it wants, but hopefully the tide is turning with the rise of the Ashford Independents party.

We in the Kingsnorth Roman ward have never been so well represented, any problem we have is dealt with within days, so I hope the population will take note of that when the local elections come round next year.
