Duo tackle three half marathons

-

South Kent Harriers duo Gary Frake and Illyan Tytel braved snow, icy winds and rain to run three half marathons in as many days at Betteshanger Country Park.

A significant amount of mud over the top of their shoes made it impossible to run fast but that didn’t stop Frake winning the first two runs, entitled the Unusual Suspects and the Roald Dahl Challenge. SKH member Jane Wren ran the QEOP 10k for second-claim club Ware Joggers in a WV55 club record time of 49min 38sec.

All three Harriers teams finished in the top five of the Lockdown League which concluded with a six-mile run. Marie Watson, Margaret Connolly, Wren and Gina Evans scored points on the day as the ladies finished overall fourth in the league.

Darren Scrivens and Jon Eaton scored for the men as they clinched overall fifth, a position matched by the mixed team.

Individually, Connolly and Wren were second and third respectively in the V55 ladies, Watson was fourth V45 and Evans 18th V35.

Ray Pearce won the men’s V60 category, with Martin Salmon seventh V50 and Scrivens ninth V40. Alan Randall and Lance Boseley completed the Harriers line-up.
