Large trawlers working off our coastline seem to have made the shore angling very patchy indeed.
There are still lots of whiting but the rays and dogfish are thin on the ground.
The freshwater angler at least avoids these worries with just the cormorants to contend with.
Still, if you persevere at this time of year, you may be rewarded with a stunning winter carp in all its glory - truly a sight for sore eyes!
