When you’re renting, it’s easy to feel like the freedom to really put a stamp on a place and feel settled is out of reach.

True, you might be stuck with somebody else’s choice of paint and furniture. And chances are you don’t have much spare cash, or perhaps you’re reluctant to spend on nice homey things if you’re trying hard to save, sharing a property, and have no solid idea how long it’ll be before you move again.

But everybody deserves for their home to feel like their sanctuary, whatever the circumstances. With two decades of renting under my belt, there are certain things I’ve discovered really have been worth it.
