Time to take up fishing? Angling Rallycross

- ByWesleyShrubsole

For any person, old or young, starting to fish can be daunting.

That trip to the local tackle shop (after lockdown, of course) can be quite intimidating but there will always be a ‘local’ in there more than willing to give advice!

The one thing that you can be sure of is that the tackle today is so good and value for money, that to get a poor bit of kit is most unlikely.

Your set-up for the beach and pier should come to less than £100. This will be about the same for the freshwater tackle to get you on the local pond or canal.

No licence is needed for the sea but you must have a rod and line licence for freshwater and this only allows you to fish so the best bet is to join a local angling club. This will give you access to waters that you can fish as often as you like. Alternatively, if you will be limited to only a few trips there are many lakes and ponds you can fish by day ticket, costs vary but will be between £2.50 and £10 a day. Club membership also varies but again a rough guide would be £20-£80 depending on the amount of waters the club control.

Our sport is a wonderful way of meeting new friends and can become all consuming very quickly! Next time, I will outline tackle required for a day on the beach and baits, and where to try for that allimportant first fish.

Night racing at Lydden Hill has been included in the

2021 British Rallycross Championship schedule. Track bosses announced their intention to race under lights again following a successful trial at the end of last year. And it appears on the calendar for the penultimate round of the season over the weekend of November 6-7, billed as ‘Rallycross under Lights’, with organisers planning to include their traditional fireworks spectacular.

It’s one of two meetings scheduled at the Kent track which will host the opening two rounds on May 29-31.

The action moves to

Mondella Park in Ireland (June 10-11), followed by Pembrey in Wales (August 29-30) and Knockhill in Scotland (September 25-26) before Lydden’s night racing. Drivers then head to Spa Francorchamps in Belgium on December 4-5.
