Council has not been prudent with cash
Re: KCC proposes ‘reluctant’ 5% tax rise (January 14)
KCC deputy leader, Cllr Peter Oakford (Con), would have us believe that ‘it is with great reluctance’ that the council proposes to increase the council tax by 5%.
Since the council has imposed similar such increases in each of the past three years, it should have overcome its reluctance by now.
KCC leader Cllr Roger Gough (Con) describes the council’s financial planning as ‘prudent’. I would beg to differ.
What benchmark can he possibly be using? Consistently increasing taxes by several times the rate of inflation is a pretty clear indicator of financial mismanagement.
