Ladies set the pace

-

There was a full turnout of 24 runners for the Lockdown League as South Kent Harriers took on the three-mile challenge. Pride of place went to the ladies’ 55-64 team, with Harriers taking first place ahead of Sittingbourne Striders and Ashford & District.

Margaret Connolly led the way in 22min 56sec, with Jane Wren (23.37) and Liz Jenkins (32.22) completing the winning trio. Raymond Pearce remains unbeaten in the men’s over-60 category after another fine run.

Last week, he beat off intense competition to win the two-mile run in 13.04. His success is well-deserved as he continues to turn out regular high mileage in training, whatever the conditions. Pearce’s efforts, along with Darren Scrivens (12.18) and Kevin Southen (13.56), put Harriers 12th in the three-toscore, and eighth in the six-to-score with the addition of Craig Hoveman, Sean Evans and Elric Howe.

Marie Watson (14.05) was fourth in the VW45-54, followed by Connolly (14.27) and Wren, second and fourth respectively in the VW55-64. The trio secured seventh in the three-to-score and fifth in the sixto-score, boosted by Gina Evans, Madison Scott and Camille Lewington.

Harriers membership secretary Barbara Hunt holds third place in the VW65-74 category.
