‘They churn up the kerbs and come at night as well’

-

Sevington resident Ian Sharp says Ashford is becoming “inundated” with lorries.

“The lorry drivers just don’t read the signs, they go via satnav and this is where it’s bringing them,” he said.

“We’re a small cul-de-sac area and we’re worried about our cars.

“They’re churning up the kerbside, and coming at night as well in the dark.”

Mrs Baird added further concerns, saying: “We have had years of disruption during construction with road delays, dust, road closures and now light pollution with more to come.

“I don’t think it is too much to ask that the powers that be give the truckers proper directions to keep them out of our small community.” In response to the concerns, a KCC spokesman said: “We have placed traffic marshals at key locations to physically stop HGVs heading down the wrong roads and, in addition, more signing to the site is in place.”

Ashford Borough Council deputy leader Cllr Paul Bartlett (Con) said “it has been very confusing for all concerned because we’ve got three lorry parks in Sevington”.
