Tributes for society chairman

A number of fond tributes have been paid to a long-standing member of the Ashford Archaeological and Historical Society.

Brian McNaughton died due to Covid-19 complications at the age of 77, with his funeral being held in Charing on January 29.

Brian married his wife Carole in 1972 after they had met at an over-18s party in Great Chart.

They went on to have two children – Chris born in 1975 and Lisa in 1980.

There are now four grandchildren – Edward, Emily, Molly and

Sam.

In 1978 they moved to Hamstreet where they lovingly worked on the house and garden.

Brian will widely be remembered for his long-term membership of the Ashford Archaeological and Historical Society.

He had been on the committee of the group since 1998 and was appointed chairman in 2001.

He has also volunteered with the Dover Archaeological Group under Keith Parfitt and helped in many digs which gave him expert knowledge with regard to carrying out such things as ‘watching briefs’ for the society.
