Radical change must come soon
Given the gravity of the situation, it is absurd that harmful activities are allowed to continue regardless of whether they might be playing a part in the way this global pandemic has evolved.
We live in a world of technological advances yet we are now near a point of no return where the price of efficiency could be total collapse. The marvellous diversity of our planet is shrinking as we become ever more advanced and produce more pollution.
All along our human history we have exploited our environment and caused notable extinctions. We accept that many species are critically endangered or functionally extinct because of our activities but at the same time we cannot even protect ourselves.
With climate change and with everything accelerating into the unknown, adding to global pollution is not going to improve a deteriorating world.
If we are in danger of losing our planet because it may soon be unable to sustain us, we need to remember what the young protesters said - there is no Planet B.
