Political system needs to change
The KM is to be congratulated on allowing so many people to express their concerns about the present nature of our society.
It is only surprising that no one mentioned the problems people face with regards to the health service.
It is time people recognised that the individual issues they raise are not isolated but that there is a general failing within the whole of our economy and that this is a worldwide systematic failure.
This can no longer be put down to the failure of the Communist system, or to the inadequacies in the Labour Party.
All countries in the world, including Russia and China, are run on capitalist lines. So the failures identified must be due to the free enterprise system that our politicians seek to defend at all costs.
I am coming to the conclusion that large sections of our community, probably between 40 and 60%, are being completely ignored by those responsible for policy formulation.
I would include all children and young people within this category.
As to a solution, one way is as your correspondent who refers to the Poll Tax campaign suggests.
This campaign involved more than just demonstrations, with the refusal to pay and the demand for a just system of local taxation.
There needs to be a complete reappraisal of policies away from the basic law of capitalism, which demands the accumulation of profit for a few, to an acceptance that no one has a future unless everyone has a future.
The sad thing is that everyone of your correspondents would probably have a different opinion as to the way forward.
Having grown up in the postwar era, I experienced that period when people valued their communities, felt part of it, and were willing to play their part in developing those communities.
We need unity, solidarity and a determination to ensure that we have a society for everybody.
This requires a revolution in our thinking and a revolution in our economic system.
