Castle going Dutch to bring story to life

A live history event is being held at Upnor Castle this weekend, depicting the 1667 battle when the Dutch sailed up the River Medway to attack the British fleet at anchor. Costumed actors will bring the story to life, regaling visitor with tales of the events and tactics that allowed the Dutch to capture HMS Royal Charles and destroy other ships at Chatham Dockyard. A host of activities and demonstrat­ions will also take place including bullet making, drill display, and children’s drill fun. Admission to the castle is £5.80 for adults, £3.70 for children, and £15.30 for a family ticket. The Dutch Are Coming runs from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, June 15 and Sunday, June 16.
