Back to the 70s at Abigail’s Party

-

After a triumphant West End run, the acclaimed revival of Mike Leigh’s comedy classic Abigail’s Party is out on tour. Ex-EastEnder Hannah Waterman stars as frustrated housewife Beverly, the role made famous by Alison Steadman in the 1977 televised play. It play focuses on an evening soiree organised by Beverly and estate agent husband Laurence at their home. Donna Summer plays on the stereo and dishes of cheese and pineapple are on the coffee table as Beverly plies their neighbours and a nervous divorcee with alcohol, cigarettes, Demis Roussos and nibbles. Not unexpectedly, the night soon descends into drunkenness and debauchery. Abigail’s Party is at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury from Tuesday, June 18 to Saturday, June 22. Performances are at 7.30pm, with 2.30pm shows on the Thursday and Saturday. Tickets £15. Call 01227 787787.
