THE ART OF KNOWING
The winners of Page Turner – the competition aimed at children across the county – are now on show at Turner Contemporary. As the Margate gallery’s major summer exhibition is Curiosity: Art and the Pleasures of Knowing, entrants were asked for original artwork on a similar theme to display alongside it. Works could be of any media and size as long as they could be transported and the competition was open to pupils, students and staff aged seven and above, based at Kent schools, colleges and universities. More than 450 entries were received and after weeks of deliberations, the winners, runners-up, highly commended and shortlisted works have been announced. Turner Contemporary schools officer Beatrice Prosser-Snelling said: “Once again we were blown away by the quality of the entries to this year’s Page Turner competition. With over 450 entries, shortlisting and judging was difficult as there were so many high quality works submitted. “There was a huge range of media used in the artworks: from paintings, to photographs, collage, sculptures, digital design and prints. We are delighted to be exhibiting the winners, runners-up, highly commended and shortlisted works in the Clore Learning Studio.”
