Pioneering Piers in the spotlight

-

An exhibition of work by pioneering artist Piers Secunda will be unveiled in Kent this week. Instead of simply applying paint to a surface, Piers, who lives in London, casts the paint and makes it into a sculpture. He added: “I have always been bothered by the physical restraints of the canvas. For me, it limits what a painting can be, so I’ve disposed of it and I handle the paint on its own – by default the paint behaves like a sculptural material.” Piers Secunda – A Retrospective will be at the Updown Gallery, Ramsgate from Friday, June 21, to Saturday, July 27. It is open from 10am to 6pm, Tuesday to Friday, and from 11am to 6pm on Saturday. Call 01843 588181.
