Kelly launches fun day

Kent sporting hero Dame Kelly Holmes will fire the starting pistol for her home town’s first dragon boat race on Sunday, June 23. Teams will set off from Tonbridge’s Big Bridge at 10am and head towards the swimming pool in the event, which will also herald the launch of family fun day, A Taste of Tonbridge. Along River Walk, around 50 charity and community groups will have stalls packed with information about what’s happening in and around the town. The High Street will have more than 40 market stalls showcasing local craft, trades and produce. There will be a live cooking demonstration, a family dog show, street entertainers and stage entertainment. At the sportsground in the centre of the town, there will also be a number of have-a-go sports activities. The Olympic gold medallist said: “I’m looking forward to the event. It promises to be a brilliant way to bring together the community and celebrate everything Tonbridge has to offer.” A Taste of Tonbridge takes place from 10am to 4pm.
