An aca­demic de­scended from Ed­ward Wil­son, the first med­i­cal doc­tor to reach the South Pole, is giv­ing a lec­ture ti­tled Scott & Shack­le­ton: Knights Of The Antarc­tic at the His­toric Dock­yard Chatham. Dr David Wil­son will ex­plore the ex­pe­di­tions of Cap­tain Scott and Sir Ernest Shack­le­ton and the of­ten heated re­la­tion­ship be­tween them, along with the me­di­a­tion of his great un­cle Ed­ward. The talk has been or­gan­ised to co­in­cide with the Ex­plor­ing Antarc­tica: The Fi­nal Ex­pe­di­tions of Scott and Shack­le­ton ex­hi­bi­tion at the dock­yard, which tells the duo’s sto­ries us­ing a se­ries of his­toric pho­to­graphs. It starts at 7pm on Thurs­day, June 27. Tick­ets cost £12.50 for the lec­ture only and £22.50 for an ad­di­tional fish and chip be­fore the lec­ture. Book on 01634 823852.
